2005: Global Partners Exchange with the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network
In 2005 Family Planning Advocates and the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network (IPPF EN) launched an international partnership to enhance family planning, reproductive health care and sex education through Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Global Partners program. In June, leaders from IPPF EN came to Albany to discuss the negative impact restrictive U.S. policies have had on international family planning, specifically President Bush’s decision to deny 34 million in promised funds to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
In September, members from Family Planning Advocates of New York State led a delegation of women’s health advocates to Europe to meet with health care leaders, service providers and government officials including Members of the European Parliament Anne Van Lancker, Veronique de Keyser and Sophie Int’Velt. The meetings in Brussels, Stockholm and Antwerp were a successful effort to build on the progress – and identify the shortcomings – from the U.N. World Summit in New York City earlier that month, where plans for continued implementation of Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) were made
